Hand Dyed Superwash Merino

Here are the final pictures of the yarn I dyed- I thought it looked even more lovely against a white background! I have called it Tie Dye.

Here are the updated pictures of the hand dyed yarn I was painting last night- I also made some more of my Wensleydale curls in a similar colourway while I had the dye pots out!

I think I still need to redye one of the hanks as it is slightly lighter in colour. I quite like though!

Hand Painting Yarn

I've been playing agin ;-) Last night I dyed up some lovely and soft superwash merino 4ply in bright jades, raspberry pinks and golden yellow. I dyed two skeins but dyed one of them for slightly longer- and obviously the colours came out stronger. I might have to put the other one back in the pot! I'll upload some pictures when they are dry.

To Dye For

I've been a busy girl! I've recently got into hand dying. I will be uploading lots of hand dyed yarn very soon onto my etsy shop (www.spincityuk.etsy.com)

I hand dyed this 80% wool 20% polyamide corespun yarn in watershades of green, teal, purples and turquoises. lovely!! I might keep this for myself.
I sprinkled the dye all over pre-soacked yarn then set it in the microwave!

Knitting HUGE and experimenting with dye...

I was looking online last night and ordered some of some gorgeous Kettle Dyed roving- which got me thinking... how exactly do you Kettle Dye? So I did a quick google and came across this link before plunging some roving into the nearnest pot!

I have also been doing lots of project distraction activities as the thought of starting work on my exhibition piece is just so stressful! I have spun all the yarn and knitted a GIANT chunky sweater.

I love the anarchic, chaotic look the chunky handspun creates.. it reminds me of Rodarte's recent collections. I've also washed, picked, carded and spun 100 grams of yarn from a fleece my boyfriend got me from a trip to wales last summer.... pictures to follow! I really must get on with my college work now! oh deary.
